Puppy familiarisation
A gentle introduction to the sounds and smells of the grooming studio.
It pays to start early. A puppy who learns that the table, the dryer and the clippers are nothing to worry about will find every groom after that much easier.
Puppies need to have had all their jabs, and be at least 10 weeks and no older than 28 weeks old.
Our policy
De-matting: kindness comes first
We groom humanely and we follow the Animal Welfare Act. We will only de-mat a coat, or shave it with our specialist equipment, if we're sure the dog will feel no pain.
Keeping the coat in order between grooms is part of looking after a dog. If a coat has been left to mat, we'll shave the matted areas off rather than let the dog suffer, and we'll happily show you how to care for the coat at home.
If a dog arrives badly matted, we shave the whole coat with a close blade. Hours of de-matting is painful and stressful, and it usually leaves a thin, damaged coat behind. Plenty of dogs are put off grooming for life by it. Shaving is the kinder option, and we're not shy about saying so.
De-matting is slow work, so where we do it we charge for the extra time.
Not sure which groom your dog needs?
Tell us the breed and how the coat is doing. We'll recommend the right groom and give you a firm price before you book.
